William Root (born 1957) is a painter and printmaker
with a keen interested in incorporating mixed media
as well as photographic processes into his work.
After graduating with a BFA in painting/printmaking
from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1980 he began
experimenting with a wide variety of techniques,
processes and subjects. In addition he worked at the
Cleveland Museum of Art from 1980-1990 in both the
exhibition and conservation departments. In 1990 he
moved to Belgium along with his wife Mindy, also an
artist. He worked as an art educator at SHAPE
International School in Casteau, Belgium from 1993-
2018. He also participated in print residencies in
Venice, Italy, Assisi, Italy, Skopelos, Greece and
Barcelona Spain. In 2018 he relocated to Sedona,
Arizona and is owner of The Root Art
Studio in Jerome. Root has had one person
exhibitions in Paris, Venice, and other locations in
Europe and the US and has work in many public and
private art collections, including the permanent
collection of BP Europe Headquarters in London,
England.
